My encounter with the world of events started in the eighties while I was a wine steward at the most prestigious Le Touessrok Hotel. I was, one day, astounded by the complete transformation of the hotel public areas decorated with spectacular floral structures while resuming duty. The occasion was to honour the vice-President of the Republic of China official visit to the island. From that day on, I decided this was going to be my new future. In consequence I started taking an interest in the floral art and starting to buy accordingly. Also the woods nearby my home became my nurseries for flowers, ferns and twigs I picked up for free. I was self taught and the kind critiques of my mother were most encouraging. My wonderful friends and relatives realized my potentials and suggested I need to expand my knowledge and fulfill myself internationally.
The resolution was to go to London, one of the hubs of the floristry world, known for its ultimate Chelsea flower show. A grand stage to further develop my career.
During my stay I had the amazing opportunity to work with the best floral designers, namely Ken Turner, the European trendsetter whom I met while executing a floral display in the lobby in the Grosvenor House in Mayfair. A defining moment in my blossoming career. He remodeled my artistic style, took it to a new dimension. Coming against such a “Giant” made me look very earthbound. I thought I had it all, my mistake!
The experience and the opportunities I was getting, enabled me to broaden my scope by focusing on theme and conceptual works, show exhibitions, tourism fairs, window dressing, I was unstoppable!
After 10 amazing years, the time had come to call it a day, I mean my journey abroad. I needed to project myself in the future, thinking about reorganising my professional career, opening my own company while my main objective was for Mauritius to benefit from my expertise and by my contribution be known in the world of events.
